I fall asleep

When I fall down asleep,
You are there,
I see you,
And I cannot escape.

You are at the center of my thoughts,
In my dreams, I sleep further,
I dream of dreams inside my dreams,
You are always there,
And I cannot escape.

You chase me down,
I chase you up,
We are close and very much apart,
And I cannot escape.

I try to change you,
The further in my dreams,
The harder so it seems,

And I cannot escape.

You need my strength,
But I am all so very weak,

Yet you’re far from whole,
I cannot escape.

You and I will muddle through,
Over bottles of mild brew,
The path above is crazy,
The path below is closed,
